From emissions data to design and delivery decisions

CFP, GHG and embodied carbon for companies, design and construction

We develop traceable carbon footprints for companies, projects and products, identify GHG sources and hotspots, then integrate embodied carbon into design-option comparison, specifications, procurement and construction and as-built reporting.

Three connected pathways

One service connecting company, project and product

We select boundaries and methods around the decision while maintaining clear separation that prevents confusion or double counting between corporate, project and product footprints.

Company GHG inventory

Measure direct sources, purchased energy and value-chain emissions with data ownership, baseline and performance dashboard.

Project and product CFP

Calculate a footprint with a clear boundary and functional or reference unit for comparison, communication and decisions.

Embodied carbon in design

Use quantities, materials, options and product data to identify hotspots and set a carbon budget and design review gates.

Carbon during construction

Connect procurement, supply, transport, equipment, energy, changes and records with construction and as-built calculations.

Problems we solve

When carbon numbers lack boundaries, evidence or influence on decisions

We connect every result with scope, data source, emission factor, assumption and owner, then convert hotspots into deliverable reduction options.

01

Unclear or changing boundaries

Included entities, sites, stages and sources are uncertain, weakening comparison and performance tracking.

02

Dispersed, low-quality data

Energy, fuel, procurement, material, transport and waste data sit across systems and parties without common definitions or ownership.

03

Undocumented factors and assumptions

Emission factors or proxies are used without a controlled record of source, year, unit, conversion and quality.

04

Embodied carbon is calculated too late

Analysis begins after materials and quantities are fixed, missing opportunities to influence design, specifications and procurement.

05

Design-to-construction gap

Calculations are not updated for changes, suppliers, actual quantities, transport, energy and equipment during construction.

06

Reduction or neutrality claims without foundation

Percentages or claims may not align with baseline, boundaries, method, evidence and the role of offsets where relevant.

Scope of work

From boundary definition to footprint, reduction roadmap and handover

Scope is shaped around the client decision: company performance, design comparison, material choice, tender, sustainability report or project handover.

Scope, method and data plan

Fix purpose, boundary, period, units, categories and responsibilities before calculation.

  • Boundary, assumption and exclusion memorandum
  • Source, category and data-owner map
  • Data request and quality-control plan

Company GHG inventory

Measure emissions across operations, energy and value chain according to the agreed scope.

  • Direct and indirect emission sources
  • Baseline and trends by site and activity
  • Consolidation, controls and double-count prevention

Project or product CFP

Calculate a footprint around a clear unit, stage and boundary suitable for comparison.

  • Life-cycle map and data flows
  • Quantities, materials, energy, transport and waste
  • Contribution, sensitivity and data-quality analysis

Embodied carbon, design and construction

Integrate carbon into material, system, procurement and delivery decisions.

  • Project baseline and carbon budget
  • Option comparison and product-data specifications
  • Track design, supply, change and actual quantities

Reduction, reporting and verification readiness

Turn results into initiatives, indicators and a transparent review pack.

  • Prioritised hotspots and reduction options
  • Roadmap, ownership and indicators
  • Report, method, evidence register and review file

Delivery process

Seven stages from the carbon question to decision and reduction

Define purpose and decision

Confirm footprint type, audience, boundaries, period, unit and accuracy level.

Map sources and data

Identify activities, materials, stages, categories, systems and data-owning parties.

Collect and validate

Standardise units and check completeness, periods, invoices, quantities, evidence and gaps.

Calculate and document

Apply factors and equations and record sources, assumptions, exclusions and data quality.

Analyse and compare

Identify hotspots, trends, sensitivity and design, material and construction options.

Reduce and integrate

Develop initiatives, owners, indicators and design, procurement and construction requirements.

Report and hand over

Issue results and evidence pack, hand over update tools and support separate independent review or verification if requested.

Delivery network

Success partners for specialist data and independent verification

Where needed, we coordinate data providers, laboratories, material and life-cycle specialists and qualified providers, while independent verification or assurance is delivered by a separate party agreed by the client.

Important note: Partners are selected according to specialisation, accreditation scope and validity, location and delivery capacity, while seeking the best competitive pricing consistent with calculation scope and data quality. References to regulatory authorities do not imply government accreditation, endorsement or direct affiliation of Sustainability in Business. Results are estimates to the extent of data, method and assumptions, and do not automatically constitute independent verification or approval of a reduction or neutrality claim.

Frequently asked questions

Important answers before a CFP, GHG or embodied-carbon assessment

What is the difference between CFP, GHG inventory and embodied carbon?

CFP describes a carbon footprint within defined boundaries for a company, project or product according to its purpose; a GHG inventory organises emission sources and categories; embodied carbon focuses on material, product and construction impacts across agreed stages.

What do Scope 1, 2 and 3 mean?

They organise emissions into direct sources owned or controlled by the organisation, purchased energy and other value-chain emissions according to applicable boundaries and categories.

What company data is needed?

It commonly includes fuel, electricity, energy, vehicles, refrigeration, procurement, transport, travel and waste according to applicable categories and company boundaries.

How does embodied carbon connect with design?

Design quantities, materials and systems are used to compare options, identify hotspots and establish a carbon budget, with calculations updated at design-development gates.

Can work begin before complete product data is available?

Yes. Documented proxy data can support early stages with quality and uncertainty stated, then be replaced with better supplier or product data during procurement.

Does the assessment include construction?

It can include transport, equipment, energy, water, temporary materials, waste and change according to project boundaries and available data.

How is double counting between company and project footprints prevented?

We fix the purpose and boundaries of each calculation, map company, project and supplier relationships and periods, and document use so incompatible results are not combined.

Are results automatically verified or certified?

No. We prepare and review the calculation, method and evidence. Separate independent verification can be supported if required.

Can you help reduce emissions after calculation?

Yes. We identify hotspots, compare options and build a reduction roadmap connected with design, procurement, operation, ownership and indicators.

How are duration and fees determined?

They depend on footprint type, boundaries, period, site or product count, material-detail level, data quality, comparisons and reporting. A clear scope and fee are then provided.

Do you need a carbon footprint supporting a company, design or construction decision?

Share the calculation type, boundary, stage and available data, and we will suggest a practical method and scope.
