Envision infrastructure qualification

Turn sustainability goals into an infrastructure project ready for Envision verification

We qualify infrastructure projects to use Envision—from early screening and target setting to integrating credits into planning, design, procurement and construction, then organising evidence and supporting independent review. We improve readiness but do not guarantee verification results or award levels.

From framework to delivery

Qualification that improves the project—not only the score

We use Envision as a decision, collaboration and evidence framework across delivery, keeping every credit connected to value, performance, ownership and proof.

Early whole-project decisions

Define values, objectives, alternatives and baselines before influence is lost or redesign becomes costly.

Integrated disciplines and ownership

Connect the owner, designers, environmental team, procurement, construction and operations through one credit and responsibility matrix.

Resilience, carbon, resources and community value

Turn climate, resource, natural-world, quality-of-life and leadership topics into measurable design and delivery requirements.

Verification-ready evidence

Build an evidence register, quality reviews and comment-response process while preserving independent verification decisions.

Problems we solve

Gaps that stop infrastructure projects from achieving credible verification

The usual issue is not the absence of sustainability initiatives, but their timing, integration, baseline and evidence of performance.

01

Envision starts after key decisions

Introducing the framework after alternatives or design are fixed reduces available opportunities and increases change cost.

02

Credits selected without a strategy

Collecting isolated points without an objective, baseline or target achievement level wastes team effort.

03

Sustainability isolated from design and contracts

Requirements left in a separate report can disappear from drawings, specifications and procurement.

04

Weak or untraceable evidence

An activity without a decision record, calculation, minute or controlled issue may not demonstrate achievement.

05

Generic climate and resilience treatment

Without risk assessment, scenarios and traceable responses, the project may struggle to substantiate resilience.

06

Changes and construction erode the target

Substitutions, variations and weak site evidence controls can lose performance the design intended to achieve.

Scope of work

A qualification pathway from applicability to the verification pack

Scope reflects infrastructure type, stage, delivery model, target Envision award level and current registration or verification status.

Screening, strategy and target level

Confirm applicability, gaps, valuable credits and a realistic pathway.

  • Review project, phase and eligibility
  • Develop initial gap and baseline assessment
  • Build scorecard and target-level scenarios

Sustainability management and governance

Turn commitments into roles, meetings, decisions and trackable indicators.

  • Project values and objectives charter
  • Credit, responsibility and schedule matrix
  • Meeting, change and document-control plan

Planning and design credit integration

Embed Envision requirements in alternatives, calculations, drawings and specifications.

  • Multidisciplinary workshops and design reviews
  • Carbon, water, energy, natural-world and resilience requirements
  • Decision, alternatives and lifecycle-value log

Procurement, construction and evidence tracking

Protect the target through tendering, supply, delivery and change.

  • Technical clauses and supplier submittal requirements
  • Construction plans, evidence, training and monitoring
  • Substitution, variation and close-out reviews

Verification readiness and review support

Organise and quality-check narratives and evidence, then support responses to independent reviewers.

  • Evidence register, indexing and version control
  • Internal QA and traceable credit packages
  • Comment-and-response matrix through agreed close-out
Deliverables

Outputs that make credits manageable and demonstrable

Every output connects to a decision, credit, responsibility or evidence item and is maintained as design and construction progress.

Delivery process

Seven stages protecting the target from concept to handover

Confirm the project and objective

Understand type, boundary, stage, delivery model, driver, target level and deadline.

Gap and baseline workshop

Review decisions and documents, engage disciplines, and identify influence points and risks.

Approve strategy and ownership

Select credits and achievement levels, assigning owner, evidence and deadline to each.

Integrate into planning and design

Convert strategy into alternatives, calculations, drawings, specifications and decision records.

Integrate into procurement and construction

Secure requirements in contracts and submittals while controlling site evidence, variations and substitutions.

Readiness and quality review

Check narrative, evidence, completeness and consistency before submission.

Verification support and handover

Support responses and updates, then hand over records to the owner and operations while final decisions remain independent.

Engagement models

Support aligned with project stage and Envision objective

Delivery network

Success partners for technical disciplines and an independent verification path

Credits may require specialist studies, models or measurements, while Envision verification and awards remain an independent process administered by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).

DESIGN • CLIMATE • ENVIRONMENT • DATA

A multidisciplinary technical team

As needed, we coordinate design, lifecycle value, carbon, water, energy, ecology, resilience and community-engagement specialists to develop suitable evidence, without implying a pre-existing partnership or accreditation.

ISI • INDEPENDENT THIRD-PARTY VERIFICATION

The official verification and award pathway

We prepare the project and evidence and support responses against available requirements, while the independent verification team assigned through the ISI process reviews the project and confirms the result and award level.

Important note: Specialists are selected for project scope, experience, delivery capacity and role independence, while seeking the best competitive pricing consistent with evidence quality. References to Envision or ISI do not imply accreditation, affiliation or endorsement of Sustainability in Business. Credit acceptance, verification result, award level and timing cannot be guaranteed; final decisions remain with independent review and ISI.

Frequently asked questions

Important answers before Envision qualification begins

What is Envision and what is the current version?

Envision is a sustainable, resilient and equitable infrastructure framework managed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). The current operational version is Envision v3, with 64 credits across five categories; ISI is targeting publication of v4 in 2028.

Which projects can use Envision?

The framework can be used for all types and sizes of physical infrastructure, including transport, water, wastewater, energy, utilities, ports and public realm. Formal verification eligibility and registration requirements are checked for each project.

When should qualification start?

The earlier it starts, the greater the ability to influence project definition, alternatives and design. A later start is possible, but we identify which credits remain achievable and the resulting schedule and evidence risks.

Is Envision only a points checklist?

No. It is a decision, collaboration and performance framework covering Quality of Life, Leadership, Resource Allocation, Natural World, and Climate and Resilience. The scorecard is a management tool, not a substitute for improving the project.

What are the Envision award levels?

Under the current official pathway: Verified is 20–29% of applicable points, Silver 30–39%, Gold 40–49%, and Platinum 50% or more. The independent review confirms the result.

Does qualification guarantee verification or a target level?

No. We support strategy, integration, evidence quality, readiness and responses, but credit acceptance, the verification result, award level and timing are independent decisions under the ISI process.

What evidence will the project need?

It varies by credit and achievement level and may include baselines, calculations, studies, alternatives, decision records, drawings, specifications, contracts, engagement records, monitoring and construction evidence. It must be specific, traceable and consistent.

How is Envision integrated with design, procurement and construction?

We translate credits into responsibilities, decisions, drawing and specification requirements, contracts, submittals and change controls, using one evidence register linking every requirement to its owner, issue and status.

How does Envision differ from LEED and Mostadam?

Envision primarily addresses civil infrastructure at project, system and community-interface level. LEED and Mostadam provide defined pathways for buildings and communities. We review asset boundaries to select one framework or an integrated strategy without assuming credit equivalence.

How are duration and fees determined?

They depend on project type, stage, delivery model, target level, credit count, design status, data quality, team size and evidence volume. Work begins with screening that defines a clear scope, programme and fee.

Is your project ready for a defensible Envision pathway?

Share the infrastructure type, stage, target level, programme and available documents, and we will propose a practical qualification pathway and clear work stages.
